Hearing Tests In Des Moines And Newton, IA

At Hometown Centers for Hearing, we offer comprehensive hearing tests for adults of all ages. We should all have regular hearing tests throughout our lives, just like we need to be screened for other types of possible health problems. Hearing loss, like many other types of health issues, is easier to help the earlier it is diagnosed.

The purpose of the hearing test is to determine what degree and type of hearing loss you have so we can best guide you towards an effective management plan. Hearing loss is diagnosed in degrees; mild, moderate, moderately severe, severe or profound.

What To Expect During Your Hearing Test

A hearing test is quick, easy, and painless. Our hearing specialist will begin with a conversation to understand how hearing loss is affecting you. Then, we will have you sit in a soundproof booth where you will wear a pair of special headphones and listen for certain sounds. Every time you hear a sound (a beep for example) we will have you raise your hand to signal you heard it. This is how we will assess your ability to hear different frequencies.

We will also perform a speech comprehension test to discern if hearing loss has affected your ability to understand certain words. We will conduct this test in both quiet and in noise.

The results of your hearing test will let us know what degree of hearing loss you have. We will then recommend a hearing aid based on this information. We carry a large selection of hearing aids that can help with hearing loss. We will go over what your listening situations are like, how active you are, and what your budget is before recommending a device.

Sound Field Testing

As part of your hearing test, we will also perform a sound field test. We will have you step into our sound isolated room and via speakers will test the sensitivity of your hearing. Sound field testing helps us develop a thorough understanding of your hearing ability.
